Today's morning devotion was from Genesis 2.
Genesis 2 talks about creation and the first humans on earth; Adam and Eve. Many lessons were identified in this chapter but our focus was on the fact that God rested after creation (Genesis 2:3).
Resting is very important for every creature including animals. Resting helps one to grow well with minimal health related problems. Its is prudent for one to pause from his or her work and rest his tools and body. Working is important but taking a pause helps you to asess whatever you have created.
Lack of rest, which implies 'non stop working' in this context, apart from causing health problems alienates people. You become distant from people if your job is not centered around constant interaction with people. If you don't take care you will work your entire life only to end up not having anyone to share your success with (broken marriage)or competent people to take care of your properties when you are old or dead (wayward kids).
Architects, both professionals and students, are noted for working all day and night (TDB). In school, architecture students are the ones with red eyes, due to lack of sleep. In the professional field, architects are always on the move chasing, convincing and supervising clients, contracts and consultants. Take a roll call in your church and you will notices that the professional with the least attendance will be the architect.
This is not to mar the image of the profession. Being the head of the design and construction team is demanding but it helps if you plan your time well and adequately prioritize your activities well.
God himself rested after creation. This means that resting is very essential for both your social, spiritual, professional and economic growth. Don't let anyone confuse you with their lengthy teachings on this topic. The word of God is pure and true. This is because God through his holy spirit inspired people to write and compile the bible. Take the word as it is and the Holy spirit will in His own time give you a deeper insight into it.
Today, take a break to meditate on the word of God; spend some time with your wife; play hide and seek with your kids; visit your old folks or fellowship with your brethren in the Lord.
Jesus is coming soon.
